The economy of love.

Saturday, May 8, 2021

All of the relationships in your life, intimate or otherwise, can be an important resource for you. They can be a source that restores and promotes your own self-love, or they can be blindspot that distracts from what it takes to love yourself. If one partner is deficient in self-love, loathes themselves, or has low self-esteem, that deficiency, like a cancer, will cause your inner light to dim, to fade, or possibly even to extinguish. Take inventory of your love economy. Do your relationships help you to see the goodness within yourself, or do they cause you to doubt who you are and become internally dim? Notice which people in your life reflect back an energy that helps you love yourself more and more, not less and less.

If you’ve been hurt by a failed relationship, rebuild your own economic recovery plan. Allow yourself to really love who you are, so you have a surplus of love to give to others. Give away what you can, but don’t build relationships with people who only make withdrawals from your inner love bank. Building a solid, healthy, and loving self-relationship is the best way to restore and develop a thriving love economy. Sometimes, like in a job, there are self-loathing people you have to work with; however, don’t choose those kinds of people in your personal life. You can choose relationships that help you build and restore your economic portfolio of self-love. Start by surrounding yourself with people who practice their own self-love! And be careful with how much time you devote to self-loathing people because they have a power to deplete your resources, if you allow them to. Build your self-loving economy and make it strong – but above all, build relationships with others that always help to generate your own self-love, inner joy, and self-respect.
