The miracle of bamboo.

Just when you think you’ve waited long enough, you’ll wait more. Just when you think you cannot stand it anymore, you’ll stand more. Just when the pain seems unbearable, more bears down. Just when you think you’ve hit rock bottom, there’s more. Just when you think you’ll never see relief, more suffocation. Just when you think things can’t get any worse, the screws turn.

Hit the limit? Bend and bow. Make room for reality. Becoming rigid and insistent hurts. Relief comes from agreeableness with change and the unknown. If it feels like life is closing in, make room for daddy. You are no match. Absorb. Facing it head on causes dents. Being a cushion of suppleness and openness absorbs the so-called shock. You learn you can take it. You learn you can wait, even more. You learn you can change, even more. You learn relief is available, even in death. Come, soothing death! Come, soothing life! I shall meet you both, lovingly.

Accept the load. Be joyfully receptive. Resistance doesn’t make you stronger, suppleness does. Resistance makes you brittle. Bamboo is strong because it bends and has roots of steel. When the harsh winds stop, it stands tall again, and grows even taller, even stronger. Not even gale-force winds have a prayer. At the top, bamboo is thin, leafy, and airy.

Supply (or suppleness) comes from allowance, strong roots, pliability, willingness, and openness at the top. We must relax in the face of fear and calmly silence our lashing tongues and rigidity. We say yes to reality as it moves in and blows us “down.” As reality encroaches, we bend and we bow to its unyielding ways. As the wind picks up, we bend and we bow once more. As we grow, we get airy, light, and thin. Bamboo – the strongest grass on the planet. Oh that we all could be so strong and miraculous!
