Full steam, ahead.

Do you know how many times I’ve given the green light on something that tanked? Meaning, the so-called captain in me said, “Full steam ahead,” and an iceberg ripped me a new one, and I sank to an icy bottom.

What appears as outcome is not yours to control nor to get ahead of. Claim credit? Cast blame? How? Edward Smith, the captain of Titanic played God Almighty in that scene – go for it, his gut whispered. “Full steam ahead!” Or was he doubting? “It’s awfully foggy out there.” Risk averse? Are we averting risk or kidding ourselves? The bow of the ship is in the fog. The outcome is the wake. It remains in that position. Outcome first, and you’re sailing backwards.

Outcome is not mine. Getting “out front” of it is what sets me up for struggle. It seems best to yield to what arises on the horizon, even if I notice the ship is sinking. If I am going down, I shall remain supple, meek, and humble. I shall captain “in front” with faith, space, and equanimity. I shall meet the steamy future head on, delighted in what is infinitely unseen.

Full steam ahead? It is steam ahead and always will be  – white smoke. Do you trust? Love, faith, joy, and peace lead. The outcome follows this clarity. The outcome is behind. Always has been. I shall leave it in the wake. As for me, I am at the bow, the foggy part. I bow to the Unseen. And I trust it wholly, awash in steam ahead. If there is an iceberg, that is destiny. But ultimately, I’m headed into the smoke, the clouds of heaven, and like a steam shower – I’m bathed in its glorious warmth and light no matter what happens. Full steam, ahead.
