Tomorrow is historical. How? No one has ever presently experienced the phenomenon of tomorrow. We “experience” tomorrow in words and images, just like we “experience” yesterday and “God.” But experience is. It doesn’t give you a chance to concoct a story about it. The preeminence of the present is history once named.
I tell myself a story about tomorrow, which is history by the time the present moment “strikes.” For me to be disappointed, I must recall the story I told myself about tomorrow, which by this point is history. Ancient history.
The present moment takes precedence over stories of tomorrow, which is what I told myself yesterday. A story of tomorrow, as it pertains to the present, is a story of the past. And so, this is how God lets us down. If I speak of God’s goodness, I can’t explain why shitty things occur. If I speak of God’s wrath and indignation, I can’t explain humor, miracles, and joy.
And so, reality appears wishy-washy, like God Almighty. But the present moment takes precedence over storytelling. Reality is. I am. When reality matches your story, it “all” works out. When reality doesn’t match your story, life sucks. Why not live in reality and be done with storytelling?
Reality is strict. It’s perfect and takes precedence over stories. Do you prefer stories or what’s real? Control is a story too. Reality seems surprising, but if there is no set-up story, how can you be surprised, disappointed, or suffer? When reality awakens and takes precedence, there is none other. Stories of tomorrow are history, and life is eternal.
Live in that refreshing constant – reality as it is, as it was, and as it always will be. That’s the history of tomorrow. The story is antithetical, not reality. Reality is real and always trumps a flimsy story.
