Some of us think we’re hanging “out there” to fend for ourselves. But if you look at the universe, it comes with a Mother for life. Socrates was said to have quipped that the mother of invention is necessity; but that quote really reads “Need will be our greatest creator.”
I like the idea of a mother. Helplessness comes with a provider, if you think about it. Even a neglected child can be adopted by a willing parent. A stray dog can find someone to take her in. I think the universe has a mother of sorts in the way that mother and child are one. The mother needs the child to be a mother and the child needs a mother to care for him. The image of mother and child are completely perfect. We’re born from our mothers, but then it seems like we’re off on our own. No such thing.
An astronaut was asked by a reporter years ago if he had seen God in outer space and the astronaut told him that yes, he had seen God. The reporter then asked, “What’s he like?” The astronaut replied, “She’s black.”
The darkness feels like a disconnect. It just feels like you’ve been “out there” hanging out to dry. But nature doesn’t do this to itself. It equips itself, forever. It gives itself intuition, survival skills, intelligence, and a soul. It relieves itself with death. It also gives itself ignorance and the capacity for surprise. I know it seems like your Mother is away; but she’s here providing, succoring, admonishing, and caring. You’re fine. You’re more than fine. You are mother and child woven in a complete image. The Mother of Invention is always here. She’s just black. There are no motherless children. There are just those who cannot see that the dark and the light a both alike.
