Can we destroy potential? The universe seems to always be saying “yes” to whatever we want, even what we want to believe. Possibility is always and evermore. As long as there is breath, anything can happen. Is that not a perpetual “yes?” We can think bad things happen to us “all the time,” but that doesn’t close the gap that anything is possible. Reality and possibility are inextricable, even if you believe otherwise. Shut down potential? Really?
Potential is eternal, like the present moment. Not a single person can shut the door. You can deny potential, I suppose, but it’s like denying gravity or denying that the earth is round. The way an insidious mind deals with the eternal openness of potential is by killing others. We try to kill the fear, kill loss, mitigate danger, kill the opponent, kill the problems, but the potential of them persists.
As much as I would love to take potential danger away, I would also have to take away all possibility, even great things. I must live peacefully with uncertainty, trusting in what guides it. But even in my perception that I can “fulfill” a dream or desire, I cannot fully realize, potentialize, or conceptualize anything. That space of potential is allowance, and I can’t fill it, fulfill it, or fully realize it, no matter how hard I try. For in each tiny development in my realization of potential, more appears.
Therefore, the universe is infinitely potent. The gap of potential is always on, like gravity. Why try to fill it? Just realize more and more of it each day. Realize dreams. Realize desires. They can’t be fulfilled, but they can be perpetually realized. You can realize more and more potential for many lifetimes. What an awesome gift that never closes itself off. Perpetual allowance is the gift of potential.
