I went to the dermatologist today, and I had to wait. As I sat, I felt the inner dictator wanting to go up to reception and shake my fist. How dare they waste my time! The inner dictator, however, wasn’t going to have his way today. Down boy.
You’ve seen those videos of Hitler, Mussolini, and Kim Jong Un. They’re shaking their fists, snapping their fingers, furling their brows, and everyone around them is bending and bowing to their every whim. We all have this dictatorship within us. We expect life to conform to our whims and demands. But what’s funny about all of these people is that they never look satisfied. All of that barking and pawing for what they want, and they never seem to get success. That’s because success cannot be bullied. It must be earned.
Aggressive drivers, where in tarnation are they going? If you don’t get your way and you lash out in aggression, you’re shaking your fist at the sky and blaming it for raining. Dictatorship is punishing yourself for things you cannot control. It’s a complete distrust. Must be pretty hard to be that demanding.
The inner aggressor must be recognized and abandoned within each person. We must teach the savage beast within us to heal. Goodies come only to those who are good natured. Satisfaction only comes to those who surrender. What is dissatisfaction anyway? It’s believing that the only way to happiness is getting your way. The only way to happiness is letting it alone, letting it be the way it is. It’s hard not to accept the invitation to be aggressive, isn’t it? We must learn to be civil, to be sovereign within ourselves. Your royal highness is not a person. It’s in the inner realm of each person, where aggression goes to die.
