My brother Benton taught me something when I was young. I was having some bad dreams, and I remember confiding in him. When he dreamed, he would just say in his dream, “Change the channel.”
Fast forward 40 years, and I practice this in a different way now. I can catch myself daydreaming. My mind will start down a tangential path of destruction, and if I don’t catch it, the momentum builds. My favorite channel seems to be “not enough.” My mind loves to end up in the swamp, where I’ll be gobbled up by the boogeyman. If I catch myself wandering down that tangent, I flip the channel to abundance.
Another one of my favorites channels is, “This is hard.” This channel contains the drama of difficulty. I once shared with a friend that I paid off all my student loans with profits from a real estate transaction. She responded, “I’ll be paying on mine forever.” I caught her tuned into the “this is hard” channel. I would hope she’d switch to the “Getting out of Debt is a Snap” channel.
The mind is a myriad of thought-carving canals. Before they develop deep impressions, catch them. Thoughts divaricate into channels and can get out of control unless you start using your Flipping power. You have to catch that kind of rage and redirect the story. Negative thinking can gain momentum. If you think that’s true, switch to the “Negative Thinking Is Easy To Change” channel! Catch yourself daydreaming!
Thanks, Benton, for helping me change the channel. Instead of carving paths to disaster, I’ve learned to craft channels to beauty, love, and abundance. My channels are now redirected towards my highest good, and I flow in the paths of peace. I’m getting better at catching my mind carving nightmarish channels.
