Let people be people.

Your enemies teach you. You know who despises you, who thinks you’re an idiot, and who would rather see you go away. Don’t try to change a thing. Let those enemies show you who you are.

My greatest teachers have been those I’ve despised, but I didn’t realize that at the time of my anguish. Now, I have people in my life who are not fans, and I know who they are. They won’t acknowledge a thing that I do, and they don’t give me the time of day. I know exactly who believes me to be the devil incarnate, and if I believed them to be the same, I am of no help.

Forgiveness will stop your enemies in their tracks. Silence will do no harm. When we love those who hate us, we are turning our enemies into friends, right then and there. Catch yourself red handed. Catch yourself holding grudges against those who hold grudges against you. Who is going to let go first?

If we all let go of our image of “other,” or enemy, what would the world look like? If we all learned to do this the minute adversarial relations built up, we could squash the enemy! We wouldn’t squash the person, but our image of them as “other” doesn’t have to rule the heart.

Adversarial relationships with others are nothing but adversarial relations with ghosts, figments of the imagination. “Others, enemies, and the world” are concepts in the head. People are people, not concepts. If you have an enemy, you hate your concept, so you basically hate your thoughts. And “your thoughts” are conceptual.

If you have an enemy it’s because you created an enemy out of them. And now, create people as they are – creative, living, and free beings just like you.
