Lift thine eyes to the mountains!

Helping people is important; but there are so many good ways to help, other than by doing it for them. Those in need of assisted living aside, most of what we do for others is an enabling substitution for what they could otherwise do for themselves.

The best way to help is to work with a person in your heart. See them as capable, worthy, and successful. See them happy, free, independent and dependable. See them being able to overcome the demons of ineptness, to flip the switch so to speak.

They don’t need a chance. They don’t need the benefit of the doubt. They don’t need your action, they need to understand, quickly. Most of the time, people simply misunderstand the nature of help. They need to understand the part of them that’s holding them back is their ignorance of that part of them that’s holding them back. In other words, they are creating the image of helplessness and staying in that role. For if they believe they need help, they will continue to seek it. If they weren’t helpless, they wouldn’t get your attention, and this is really what they crave.

Break them free from their restraints by seeing them as vibrant and self-sufficient. Grant it, there are things that require teams, but in the end, it’s all within the realm of understanding. The minute you do something for another, that which they can do for themselves, you have confined them as helpless. In turn, they have confined you as helper.

In the Psalms we’re are told, “My help comes from The Lord.” But few understand that implicit in that statement is that “My helplessness also comes from The Lord.” When you recognize the confinement of roleplay, you can break free, switch it up, and help yourself to more. This is the ol switcheroo, and no one is confined unless they are trapped in misunderstanding, and well, we know nothing is permanent.
