I can do all things.

You won’t amount to much if you don’t believe much in yourself. The training wheels must come off. You can do it without a specific teacher, without resources, and without physical evidence. You can do it with no knowhow, no experience, no money, no religion, and no time. What do you place your faith in? Do you place it in yourself or something outside of yourself?

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” is a terribly misinterpreted passage. Christ means “anointed one,” and I believe this refers to me. If it refers to anything outside of me, then I’ll get distracted, hold my hands in the air, and become dependent upon some god (or concept) in the sky.

“I can do all things.” That statement, I can get behind. “Through Christ who strengthens me” is a bit tougher. I haven’t a clue what that means, and most people don’t. Yet, they’ll argue with you about it, they’ll insist on being a victim, and they won’t be able to do anything because they think they need something called Christ, a disincentivizing word. Many are stuck defining what “through Christ who strengthens me” means, while others are accomplishing great things simply with “I can” thinking.

I can do all things because I am all things. Let’s rewrite it. “I can do all things, unconditionally.” That’s easier to understand, and it puts the responsibility on me, not something “out there,” a historical figure in the mind, fortune, or the Bible. It makes me the source and gives me the keys of authority to accomplish whatever I desire. Let the overly religious argue about what they cannot do without something called “Christ,” whatever the hell that means. In the meantime, I’m going to get to work on my goals, strengthen my self-faith, and do great things – all things – simply because I can!
