Getting to the point is hell. It just makes you edgy.

I don’t think anything about the universe is linear. It has no leading edge. The universe appears to have a horizon, or be open-ended, but as you approach the apparent edge, it continues back upon itself in waves. It looks as if you can jump off the edge, but there is nowhere to fall. And likewise there is no point, so stop being edgy.

Preachers are very good at summarizing how “God is working his purpose out.” Of course, one could argue I’m doing the same thing with this post, but that’s the fun. As we summarize, make a point, and package it in a nice, tidy “known” belief, the universe challenges it, and bursts it like a balloon, revealing more waves of the unknown.

We’re always trying to make sense out of everything, but the joke is on those who think they’ve got it all sewed up. You can’t make a point out of a sphere. A good Christian would say the purpose of life is to get to heaven. And then what? We’ll all sit around the throne of God and sing “Alleluia” into eternity? Sounds like a boring church service that never stops. If you look at medieval paintings of hell, everyone is running around with weird creatures participating in all sorts of foolishness and debauchery. I’d rather that than standing around the throne of God in a white robe, forever!

There’s just no point. We’re all so edgy though. Getting to the point in a spherical universe, you’ll drive yourself mad. That’s hell. Play in the waves, slide down and up through the circles, but don’t get edgy when your illusions burst. Trying to “arrive” is futile. The hard edges of belief will eventually burst the illusion of boundaries, revealing more of the infinite curvature in the Great Unknown hiding in the apparent horizon of heaven and hell.
