The gift of better. Enjoy the perpetuity.

What if you could just drop the outcome? I often struggle with whether or not my creative work is in a so-called finished state. Do things like music or writing have a perfected, stopping point? I could revise, add, take away, or revamp just about anything I’ve ever produced. My writing, my gardening, or all of those house projects can go on and on. People who get caught up in remodeling projects, you know it’s never really finished. After it’s all said and done, there’s always something you could have tweaked or wish were different. People seem to say frequently, “If I had it to do all over again, I would have done it differently.”

There is no “finishing.” The universe itself is unfinished. It’s evolving as a process that unfolds forever. Where is the end of the universe? It has no boundary. Likewise with you and I. We’re not done, we are process, uncoiling in human form. We’re infinite beings with temporary bodies.

The ongoingness of life is hard for a human brain to understand. Our brains don’t understand that a so-called finished product is simply a snapshot in time, never perfect and never real. The constant unfolding of the universe means we still have work to do, things to discover and things to learn. You’re never finished, even though you may think you’re all “washed up.” A sliver of time is no outcome. It’s an artifact. Love watching your artifacts evolve. I love seeing my writing mature; my attitudes season; my skills refine; my body age; my ideas unlock; my love deepen; and my understanding broaden. I’m evolving and I’m always getting better. Enjoy the perpetuity. It’s better to dispense of the outcome, and just focus on the joy of more to uncover. It can always be better – what a gift!
