The truth will set you free; Or does the truth hurt?

It is often said that the truth will set you free. But then I’ve also heard that the truth hurts. So which is it? What is freedom, but a feeling? In many cases, the truth is a lie of which you are ignorant. Look how many times you were wrong about something. You thought you were right, convinced by conviction, and then SURPRISE! Your convinced state of mind suddenly goes berserk. What felt like truth now feels like the hell of betrayal.

Does the truth set you free, does it hurt, or is ignorant bliss? When spouses cheat on each other, the one being cheated upon has no clue and lives in ignorant bliss. My spouse was cheating on me for 6 months before I knew a thing. When I found out the truth, it hurt like hell. I went from being on top of the world to dropping to the bottom of despair in the course of a single revelation. But this is the cycle of liberation. It’s a wave.

We are ignorant, then we have to shed our ignorance and die to that untruth. We suffer in death and rise to new levels of understanding. Birth is suffering too. Starting over is painful, but after the pain comes illumination. Illumination is what sets you free. We cocoon in ignorance, we suffer and die, we shed old beliefs, and we rise to new understandings. Each shedding cycle is painful, but awakens you to higher levels of equanimity. Ignorance is bliss, the truth does hurt, but as soon as you can, wake up from your stunned state to see new light on the other side of the tomb. Illumination is the resurrection that ultimately sets you free.
