I’m always mystified by natural habitats, like the forests, the prairies, or the deserts. Nature does it best, but to the unsuspecting, it all seems scattered, strewn, and asymmetrical. But it’s never a mess. Humans make messes. Look into the night sky. All of the stars look like they were spattered – no rhyme or structure, yet so divinely radiant with no aesthetic mistakes. Nature is perfect.
So I wonder, why do we strip life of all of it’s spontaneous, nature-bound riches? Why fear the natural wonder working in your life? Why fear the twisted “chaos?” We seem to prefer chemically-induced, manicured lawns with topiaries and symmetrical borders, but then are awe-struck at the Swiss Alps. We turn natural perfection into cookie-cutter patterns that amount to nothing more than suburban junk. Why are we not allowing nature to do what she does best?
To what extent do we abdicate naturalness for the illusion of control? Most people are manicured and neatly patterned, suppressed, and easy to control. Where’s the wonder and spontaneity of that adventure? Is spontaneity and whimsy only for the great outdoors and children? Why not let your nature come through? To do that, you’d need to give up the illusion of control. Let the rivers carve valleys in your life. Let the mountaintops rise as they will in your life. Nature does it perfectly. It can heal itself and create new things in your life. Can you trust in your nature? If you let your nature come through, you’d have a treasure trove of wonder, whimsy, and beauty. Rather than a few highly-manicured topiaries, you’d have the entire rain forest at your disposal.
