Who owns the rights to your story?

The story that you know as “your life,” what rating do you give it? Is it boring, or is it a heart-warming blockbuster? Is it a scary story, one where you have your eyes covered; or does it seem like a foreign film, one where you don’t understand anything going on?

Think carefully about how your life “reads,” as a story line. Who owns it, and who is directing the main character? What do you want for the main character? Sometimes there are “accidental” stories that get inserted into your narrative, through happenstance, or by tragedy. But a good storyteller can always weave a new narrative around such blips. A good actor can improvise when necessary.

If you don’t sit in the director’s chair of your existence, if you don’t own the rights to your story, your existence will have no point. What if you took more ownership in it? You can! You can be the screenwriter. You can tell a new, more lovable, and likable story – one that extends from a peaceful, energized, inner state of being. That’s where a good story begins, from a positive, inner condition. The beginning of your story starts with how you feel, then it’s expressed in words, and then it goes on from there. In other words, it has a point – a point of intentional, positive departure. That point of departure is how you feel, right this very moment. What’s your feeling, now? Is it what you want to begin with? What’s your first word? Is it what you want to say? Be thoughtful and intentional. The universe gave you another chance, when you woke up today. Start with a good feeling, author a new narrative, and create a better story that makes you happy. Each moment is a new chance to own your story, and tell a better one – don’t miss it.
