A sellout is someone who betrays themselves for a perk, a fringe benefit, or an added bonus that never helps. That is not to say that these VIP perks aren’t nice. I would never turn my nose up at it, save for one thing – I can’t betray myself for dessert.
A cop-out is someone who sells themselves short. They betray themselves because they simply don’t believe they can have exactly what they desire.
Selling out and copping out are similar, hunger-inducing phenomena. The sellout fears she’s in need, so her eyes grow bigger than her stomach when offered a perk. Who wouldn’t want the bling, the attention, the VIP lines, and the recognition? But that’s like dessert for breakfast, cookies for a snack, and chocolate for lunch. Full yet? I’m hungrier and sicker with every bite.
The cop-out fears she’s in need too, so she acts quickly. She falls short. A Goldilocks-like life is out of reach, so she grabs a little morsel, even though she knows it’s not satisfying. Can’t pass up a compromising bargain, even though it’s not right.
The Goldilocks zone in the cosmos is a region in the universe that has conditions “just right” to support life. Known as the inhabitable zone of our solar system, this is earth’s region. Sellouts and cop outs are on the fringe. Desolate zone.
What’s this zone where it’s “just right?” It’s called being in the zone. Time stands still. Everything locks in. No work. No problems. It’s just right. Fulfilled. You don’t have to go anywhere to find the zone. It’s always available when the past and future are dropped. Many are caught in the twilight zone – endless hunger spurred on by incessant thought.
Get in the zone. Not in the end zone, not in the twilight zone – the zone.
