As animals, we have natural instincts. But staying in touch with your natural instincts, as an animal, is a tricky part of life’s navigation. Relationships make this navigation particularly difficult. But all relationships are temporary, and this is important to remember. Even in a “lifetime” partnership, one person will eventually be single, again. My good friend from Kansas reminded me that his mother was single, and lived alone for 30 years, following the death of her husband. There are a lot of people on the planet that would feel desperate, if faced with living alone for 30 years. I know, all too well, the feeling of being “lost” within a relationship, and desperate for attention. That feeling of desperation and of being lost is a result of disconnecting from your natural, instinctual, navigational system.
When you connect to your instinct, as an animal, you will sense that you “light up” from the inside. Being instinctual means paying attention to what you like and to what you desire, at every moment – not just getting lost in what you think your partner likes and desires. I’m not very good at this tricky balancing act. I tend to lose myself in worrying about my partner’s wellness. But the universe is an amazing place. It always brings you back to your instinct, but it’s waiting for you to be ready. Many times, it shows us who we are, through very difficult and hard circumstance – like a breakup. The devastation and misery of a breakup is a result of your own realization that you have simply neglected your true instinct. You have forgotten to ask, “What do I want?” Only you know the answer, and only you can fulfill that need – not your partner. When you follow your natural instinct, your soul will leap into action, and your life will land into the groove of its own destiny. Joy will predominate; peace will flow; excitement will lead; behaviors will change; and hope will prevail, over fear. The greatest quest for any human is in knowing their instinctual nature, and remaining true to that awesome, sacred mystery. Don’t allow any relationships to uncouple you from your true nature.
