Are you a fan yet?

It might take you a lifetime to realize who you truly are. I was recently watching an old VHS of my first college organ recital, age 20. What a handsome young man – bright, talented, and innocent of heart! After watching something I hadn’t seen in 30 years, I wanted to go back in time, sit in the audience while he played and marvel at him. Then, I would stand in the receiving line, and tell him how sorry I was for not being there to support him in 1996. I was there, but shadowed as the critic.

I abused, tortured, and denied him. I told him lies. I simply didn’t realize he was me. I don’t know the difference between him and I now, but from now on, I’m on board. I am the president of his fan club, a HUGE admirer and supporter. A loyalist.

I may be 30 years late, but not too late. I’m just grateful that I have the chance to begin anew. To make amends to that young (now, not quite so young), handsome sprout. Full of potential, even at 51.

I admire him. I’m his number one. Oh sure, he’s not without his quirkiness, but who isn’t? I like that charm. If you can show me a person who doesn’t have “faults,” (charm) I’ll show you a dead spirit who totally despises who they are, simply un-realizing.

It might take you lifetimes, but if you don’t enjoy your own company – Houston, we have a problem. If you don’t enjoy your presence, run from it, deny it, and dump misery on it, you’ll be sorry.

Now’s the time to get in line, stand in awe of who you are, ask for an autograph, enjoy your company and admire the amazing presence that cannot be compared.

There is none other. Are you a fan, yet?

I AM, now.
