Big Love, Big Fun, Big Easy

Remember those red horseshoe magnets? Run them through sand and iron filings stick, dripping with goodies. The magnet has inherent properties. It’s “lit up.” You can’t tell it is magnetic, though, until you see the filings sticking to it, once buried in sand.

If I took a non-magnetized, painted horseshoe “knock-off,” and ran it over the sand, no iron filings would stick. It “lacks” inherent magnetism. This is what we do for the poor. We try to make material wealth “stick outwardly” when the issue is internal. Lottery winners prove this phenomenon repeatedly. In no time, they’re broke. No matter how hard you make them “look” magnetic, magnetism is within.

Jesus said something that is often seen as cruel, “For whoever has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away.” Jesus was telling us that wealth, beauty, and attraction are intrinsic. But we keep throwing money and even homes at the poor. That’s like putting bandages on cancer. The root cause is deeper.

A bighearted person is called magnanimous. Magnus means “great” and animus means “soul.” Magnanimity means you are a softie who loves big, who has fun, and who plays easy. I used to be a “go getter,” one of those knock-off magnets that nothing “stuck” to. I was clingy. I may have looked like a magnet, but inwardly, I was poor.

The clingy repel. They haven’t understood the properties of inherent magnetism. Lighten up, loosen up, and attract. Get “charged up,” simply for who you are! Get high, even with nothing to show for it, externally. Magnetism is the inherent magic of big love, big fun, and big easy. No extrinsic reason to be happy. It’s just because you realize who you are, fundamentally.
