I was recently offered an opportunity to return to a job I blindly quit two years ago. They had a sudden resignation, and they contacted me for a one-year contract. If I returned, I would have compromised my integrity. Once made whole, you cannot part.
Integrity comes from the word integer which means a whole number, intact. From “in” and the Latin “tangere” ‘to touch,’ integrity implies being “in touch.” No longer fractionalized.
Haven’t you ever been divided? You might have said, “I’m of two minds about this.” Or, “I’m debating whether I should do this or that.” Or, “I just had to make a split decision.” Or, “Something tells me I should do x, y, or z.” Or, “I can’t settle on this or that.” A house divided against itself cannot stand, as Lincoln reminded us.
When you can no longer stand division and the ensuing suffering, integrity aligns. Division ceases, the so-called debate whether you should or shouldn’t ends. Jesus reminded us that we cannot serve two masters. And so, he was speaking of this inner debate that many of us are rattled with, shifting to and fro. If I had agreed to return to a job I was led to quit, I would be doing it for the money. Or the health benefits. But I serve one master. My Highest Self into which my humanhood is integrated and aligned. I can no longer serve “others,” or money, or God, or be tempted by anything that doesn’t align with my highest intuitive will, desire, and joy.
I am no longer fractionalized by the offer of money or lured in by so-called benefits. Compromise is out of the question. If you are of two minds and wafting, I understand the predicament. Soon your house will unite. Under one roof, you will stand firmly and be in touch with truth unspoken.
