Superficially, I feel I am nothing but an idea. Substantively, I feel I am nothing but love. Does that make me irresponsible? An irresponsible person does not show a proper sense of responsibility. Synonyms include giddy, slaphappy, harebrained, heedless, and misguided. That describes me.
Responsible means having an obligation to, like “daddy” is watching, expecting, and hovering. Synonyms include in charge of, in control of, accountable, supervised by, and answerable. This describes no-one.
In the west we have this vague notion that God does all the good things, we have totally fu<ked up, and we do all the bad things. We’re wretched, and to make up for this gap, we crawl on our knees and ask (no, beg) for forgiveness. The responsible thing to do is to own up to your wrongdoings. Do you own up to your birth, your ethnicity, your likes and dislikes?
Who is accountable? Can you blame mom and dad for conceiving you? You might say, “I’m accountable to myself, thank you very much.” In the same way mom and dad conceived you, you have conceived yourself – a little “me” born into a mentality of separateness – a free-roaming agent given permission to fu<k up the world. You haven’t such a responsibility – to fu<k up the world!
How unfair to suspect yourself guilty of anything! You can’t tell who or what is responsible, why would it be you? If it’s me, yikes. If it’s you, double yikes. If it’s God, then damn us all. Why does the universe need a captain? It seems fine. It unto itself is harmonic.
Read the story of Job – he couldn’t find the complaints department, so how can we find “a god” to bow down to? No hang ups. No responsibilities. Is that a naive way? That’s the only way. To trust like a child – irresponsible, slaphappy, and freely harmonious.
