Someday overcomes you.

To be a liberal is to be shackled to yesterday. Spend yesterday’s money, make up for the past, and sacrifice today. As debt mounts, it accentuates lack. Handouts, causes, and identification with victimhood keep the fear nestled closely in dependency.

To be a conservative is to be shackled to tomorrow. Save, you fool! There won’t be enough. Someday, you’ll need that rainy day fund. Someday, you’ll need that underground bunker. Postpone today, who knows what tomorrow brings! Be fearful.

Nestled in a love affair, liberals and conservatives are bedfellows. They both fear “someday.” Liberals are trying to overcome “the past,” digging an unending hole of lack. Conservatives are trying to overcome “the future,” digging a hole of superficial preparation. The shovel is fear.

We shall overcome, someday. This is what keeps us begging for mercy; fearing what God will do to us, someday. No one seems free. Enslaved by yesterday, debt mounts, lack increases, fear abounds. Enslaved by tomorrow, surplus overcrowds, today is lost, and preparation for doomsday abounds.

When you overcome yesterday and tomorrow you are neither free nor captive. You are just you. At this level, an indifference overcomes. Peace overcomes. Fearlessness overcomes. You awaken to frivolity. Liberals nor conservatives are free, both are shackled and aligned with a reality that doesn’t exist – someday.

If someday came, it will be now. No-one can taste the future, now. No one can taste the past, now. But we lick and lick, bound for more lack. “Someday, we shall overcome.”

Who has touched, smelled, tasted, or experienced “Someday?” Someday is right now, as it always has been. That’s it. An intimate peace, uncoupled from fear, right in the center of being eternally present and wonderfully indifferent. You won’t overcome, someday. Someday overcomes you.
