Conventional wisdom is the generally accepted belief, opinion, judgment, or prediction about a particular matter. Put simply, it’s where the crowd goes. Your spiritual journey is about moving away from crowded places.
Everybody’s on social media, and you’ll miss out if you’re not. Keep up with the headlines – you’ve got to be an “informed citizen!” You can’t find a date without the apps. Everything happens for a reason. You’re too old to change careers, to start a family, or to launch a business. Nobody else is going to pay your bills. The world is dangerous, watch your back. Relationships, losing weight, and kicking addictions are hard. You have to work like a dog if you want to make anything out of yourself.
Question conventional “wisdom.” Gandhi wanted nothing to do with money. People threw it at him, and his associates had to get rid of it. Jesus lived with 12 men, roaming the countryside. The Buddha lived in a cave. Paul rejoiced and wrote a lot of the New Testament in a stench-filled cesspool of a prison. The evangelicals didn’t want to conform to the tradition of the church and formed a new country. Now, they want the country to conform to their oppressive, “traditional values.”
Jesus’ message, and the Buddha alike, is always radical – pay attention to yourself! Think unconventionally: Finding playful ways of making a living is possible. Do nothing, like the lilies, and things come to you. Working out and physical exercise are easy, joyful, and awesome. Money flows into your life, effortlessly. Your bills are paid. The world is safe. Relationships are easy and finding your mate is as simple as bumping into him at the supermarket. Losing weight is math. Math is easy.
Follow the Radical Master. The Master Plan leads you away from conventional “wisdom.” Pay attention to yourself. The radical message never changes.
