The Glory of a Pecan.

A lot of times, if you get quiet, your intuitive voice will have no tasks. Embrace the quiet period. In those times of “What will I do?”, remember it’s all being done. Wait for the harvest.

Is there something wrong with “not producing?” There are some fruit trees on the planet that don’t bear fruit for 15 or more years. Does this mean the fruit tree is unfruitful? What’s happening during that time? The work is being done behind the scenes, and the tree is “busy” maturing. In that way, it’s productive. Maybe you’re just maturing.

My grandmother had an orchard of pecan trees on her property, planted when she was young. They grew to 60-100 feet tall. It was a good 20 years before she saw a single pecan, and while the trees produced, they only made harvest every 3 years or so. I remember her telling me that they planted those pecan trees as saplings, and the journey of watching them grow was so meaningful to her.

But what a long time to wait. It was worth it though. Nothing beats a South Louisiana pecan. Once those trees started producing, they made the best cakes, pies, and pralines – or you could just pop them in your mouth as a snack. My grandparents would pack bags full in the freezer. Those juicy pecans were succulent, and perfect, and they would fall by the bucketful. It was like manna from heaven.

You can’t rush greatness. You can only enjoy knowing that you, like those mighty pecan trees, will bear much fruit. And the journey of your maturation means something, so don’t fret. Deep inside, you know you have something great to offer the world. Don’t push – the glory of the pecan has a story. Enjoy knowing what’s coming. Look out into your orchard, and be ready with your bucket.
