I want to see what’s over the edge. I no longer creep up to it. That’s because it’s not creepy. I may not be familiar with the unknown specifically, but I get the gist of the unknown. The unknown knows me.
I look forward to dying. I denied that inevitability for years. But now I let the inevitable come with more ease. I anticipate the joy of leaving the body, and that’s how I can be on the leading edge of the unknown without being edgy. The unknown and the known are twins dancing harmoniously in my ignorance.
I befriend variation rather than futility trying to strip it away. Most of us are trying to strip it away, living sterile, duller-than-dirt lives. Potency is key. Potency is the power of something to influence or make an impression. The unknown has made an impression on me!
If you look back on your past, the further you go, the less specific you can get. That’s because specifics don’t necessarily matter. It’s the gist. From Anglo-French, gist means ‘cest action gist’ or “this action lies.” The form, the persona, the ego, the hardened edges, and the fear lie. What lies beneath is the essence, the impression of potency. You can trust variation.
If I recall distant, childhood memories, I get the gist. I see through the ego, the anger, the hard times. What’s left are the lessons, the admonishment of Love’s strong and guiding hand. I see the evolution of the spirit. I see the growth of understanding. I see the impression of potency.
The more distant trauma becomes, as a specific, the more admonishing it is. The sting of specificity transmutes to wonderment of generalities. What lies? The specifics – they don’t matter as much as what’s left. In the bigger picture, do you get the gist of your life? “This action lies.” So what lies beneath?
