Things don’t get our attention until they seem imbalanced. We don’t pay much attention to the body until it’s obese and atrophied. We don’t pay much attention to the mind and spirit until a nervous breakdown. Few sit quietly for revelation of how to heal themselves and restoring balance.
Healing is restoration of homeostasis. Obesity is an imbalance in diet and movement. Lack of energy is an imbalance between sedentary and motion. Stress is one-sided. One side of the scale is tapped out. Where are you out of balance?
When I was partnered, which was 9 years with one partner and 5 with another, my scale tapped out. Lack of solitude put me in a deficit, and my spirit withered. Now that I am primarily in solitude, I recognize the importance of being with people from time to time. Be wary of what looks like “all the time.”
Social media loves imbalanced minds. Packaged, processed food loves imbalanced eaters. Clingy people love imbalanced, needy people – putting stress on both scales! Homeostasis hasn’t a prayer in a codependent relationship. Codependency means you can’t do without, or you’ve got too much. Wherever you are out of balance, you will find your ailments.
“All the time” can sneak up on you and tip the scale. Next thing you know, you’re fat; wary of company; missing people; hoarding; giving away too much; sitting too much; or starving yourself. Homeostasis is where you’ll find the perfect garden of Eden, an oasis nestled in the best of “both worlds.” It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how out of balance the world seems. 80% of Americans hardly exercise at all, and that’s only one of the multitudinous examples of imbalance. Must we wait to be broken before we come back to the middle, the paradise of homeostasis?
