It takes longer than you think. It happens differently than you think it will. We’re seemingly out of sync and out of touch, that’s why. This out of sync perception is our work. We’re to get in sync. How else could you understand what patience was unless some part of you expected things to happen sooner? How could you understand trust if you knew how it was all going to work out? Patience is built around a perception that something should happen “more” timely. In other words our inner clock is off from The Clock – Father Time. Trust is built around the perception that something should happen altogether! But why should it happen a certain way?
Reality has its own timing, and we have an offset clock within. Our inner hours seem to move faster than reality’s will. Impatience means you’re offset. Trust is another matter of alignment. Reality seems to have its own “know-how,” and we want to get in on that. Our inner know-how is crude. Trust is merely leaving that to The Expert, which seems to weave it with finesse, circuity, and surprise.
I know things will happen. But I also know that my “when” and my “how” is off. I’m reminded of a famous cantata by J.S. Bach – Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (God’s time is the very best time). God’s how is the very best how, too!
I think this “out of sync” sensation is an illusion that needs to dissipate. There is only God’s time and God’s how. Syncing up is simply not allowing yourself to get antsy or nosy. I think the how and when are really none of our business. Our business is to grow in patience and trust.
