Thanks, Mr. Rogers! It IS a good feeling.

In each episode, Mr. Rogers began his show with the words, “It’s such a good feeling to know you’re alive.” To be alive is one thing, to know it – OH BOY!

Go on YouTube and watch videos of people who regain senses or discover them for the first time. There are videos of people hearing for the first time, or babies seeing clearly, with new glasses. Their reactions are priceless. There are also new advancements in technology that are allowing ALS patients to regain communication, or paralysis victims to move again. Regaining a sensibility – the greatest gift. Knowing you’re alive, same thing.

Cats are alive, but they don’t know it. You know it, and it is such a good feeling to come to your senses. “And when you wake up ready to say, I think I’ll make a snappy new day,” the feeling of aliveness is enhanced by your awareness of it all. Your sentience is your greatest treasure. Being, breathing, moving – those are great; but knowledge of them – WOW.

If you’re happy and you know it, please clap your hands, say “weeeee,” and spin around like a little girl in a dress, loving its twirly nature. If you’re sad and you know it, cry, carry on, say “boo hoo.” It’s the entire spectrum from the worst to the best that makes you know you’re alive.

We can traverse the boundary of background and foreground, and that’s a subtle form of omniscience. You know that you know. It’s such a good feeling to know, not only that you’re alive, but that you are sentient, and dare I say even omniscient. That’s the miracle we overlook – knowing that we know. In that weird space of being all-knowing, we discover what it’s like to be God; except if you knew everything in the literal sense, you’d miss the surprise and joy of coming to your senses!
