Choosing the unattainable is not for the “getter done” types.

I used to be a “getter done” kind of a person. I loved finishing. I loved winning and mastering. I loved checking things off my list. But now, I love the fact that my work is always unfinished. It doesn’t bother me that things remain that way. But creative types are always that way, always creating. Getter-done types are always finishing. Finishing is overrated. It’s a good feeling to know that what I’ve chosen to do will always give me something to do. I’ve chosen the unattainable.

Accomplishment is not all it’s cracked up to be. How many times do you have to accomplish something before it no longer satisfies you? Re-accomplishment gets boring, so I like to oneupmanship with myself. I love the constant play. I love that my yard is never a “finished product.” I love that my fitness goals are just beyond reach. There’s always something to be done with athletic training. While that frustrates some, my “unfinished” business is my forever companion!

Music is also without end. I can’t perform Bach without blemish, no matter how hard I try. Just the fact that there is more work to be done isn’t daunting, but enticing! I love that I always seem to have something to write about. My book – ha! It’s coming along, but I keep having revisions and rewrites. While this may seem frustrating, the playfulness is engaging. I have something to do every day. Thank you God!

Life has unlimited supply if you’re creative. Your work is not completable if it’s expressive. You’ll be supplied forever. Get rid of checklist mentality and dive into creativity. The best kind of activities are unattainable. I’m grateful. It keeps me busy, and it keeps me enjoying my work forever. Too bad for the “getter done” types.
