It is amazing how naive we are. We think that we can immunize ourselves from problems. If we read enough books, take enough medication, save enough money, and get a lot of advice, we can protect ourselves. Read the reviews, see which product has the best, and you can prevent yourself from being disappointed from the “wrong” choice. Ah, to be right all the time – what fools are we? Legislate away social problems and build equality and happiness once and for all – silly people.
No matter how lock, stock, and barrel you think you’ve got it, it decays. Nothing is permanent, and from the time you’ve got it all sewn up, it begins to unravel. Even the truth in that previous statement will decay one day. Solutions decay into problems. From within the membrane, a cancer eats away old structures and perceptions, and makes way for new challenges. Morning to night, night to morning, and so on. There is no rest without the expenditure of energy.
Gate your community, keep out the enemy, protect yourself, preserve yourself, and decay will find you. New problems develop from within the so-called wall of impermanence.
You cannot rest in illusion. The supreme intelligence can outsmart the inferior. We cannot know “it all.” If you think you’ve gotten it all figured out and have prevented something tragic – the universe giggles. Death is on its way. You cannot prevent, protect yourself from, or outsmart it. But you can get quicker at recognizing a pretense of security in an unpredictable world. So what exactly are you trying to preserve and protect? It’s all dying.
