Don’t follow the money. Let it follow you.

I have never done anything solely for income. I’ve always done things for joy and because they resonate in my heart. If money came, it was a byproduct of following what I loved to do. I never follow money. Money follows me.

St. Augustine was said to have thought God gave us laws to prove to us that we couldn’t follow them. No-one can strictly follow the 10 Commandments. Even the saints beat their chests regretfully for not following the law. But therein lies the problem. We cannot follow what’s not inside of us.

The whole premise of a spiritual conviction is one’s learning that wisdom and morality are revealed internally. That if we truly know ourselves, we will know how to behave accordingly. It is through this that one “discovers” what Jesus called the “Kingdom of Heaven.” And to be a follower of this realm, one must know where it is. He said it was within – not inscribed in tablets, on the books, or in words. It’s the inner realm that leads us to the path of wisdom, understanding, and truth.

The Buddha didn’t have a teacher. Jesus had no teacher. Eckhardt Tolle discovered spiritual truth when it was revealed to him after a long bout with depression. Wisdom and truth are revealed often through tragedy, but sometimes just naturally or suddenly. That’s called satori, salvation, or enlightenment. There is nothing outside of yourself that you can successfully follow if it’s not ingrained in your heart. If you work for the money, you’ll never have it. If you follow an app, a flowchart, a law, or anything “out there,” it will be short-lived. Seek the path internally, and the way is known. Never follow advice. Never follow money. Never follow the crowd. Follow your heart, and if it be your desire, things like money will just flow to you with ease.
