I was once a candidate for a job which swirled with controversy. By all measures, it seemed as though the job was unstable, it didn’t have good leadership, and the people I’d be working with were not, shall we say, fans of mine. This may have had something to do with the outgoing person who I was to replace. He was viciously holding on to the position and tried everything in his power to sabotage my chances. It looked dramatic. It looked like it wasn’t a good fit, and it looked like I should have stayed away.
After they brought in three candidates, including myself, I was offered the job. A colleague of mine at another institution advised me not to take the position as he thought it was, as he put it, “a viper pit.” All the outward signs said “BEWARE.” But the inward signs said “YES.” Which one wins?
The inward signs are the ones you can trust. When it’s time, out of the depths, the voice of clarity will speak. The shadow of doubt will lift, and there will be a clear path forward. That’s the key, it will be clear for you. It might be murky on the surface, but below it will feel grounded. I have come to learn how to trust myself. But I have also learned that my seemingly foolish decisions have worked out for my benefit too; but those decisions that I knew deeply as a calling turned out to be really amazing.
If you’re confused, the signs of clarity are within. It’s the inner light that you follow, even when there seems to be darkness and chaos on the surface. If you don’t know where to turn, look towards the light truth. It burns brightly within you. Trust it enough times, and you will have anything your heart desires.
