Recently I heard two people conversing. I wasn’t eavesdropping, but they weren’t aware that I could hear what they were saying. As they approached where I was sitting, my name came up in the conversation. The person who was recounting the story totally lied about me. What they said painted me in a rather bad light. Momentarily, I thought about popping up around the corner and saying, “Gotcha! That’s not how it happened at all, you lying sack of $#1t.” But I didn’t. Liar liar, pants on fire. Silence cannot make a liar out of you. Let it go.
People are going to say what people are going to say. People talk about you. And likely, most of it is untrue, even if it’s a so-called compliment. I’m going to admit something. I’ve lied about others. I’ve “stretched” the truth to get a good story. Who doesn’t like a good story? We embellish to get attention, kick up drama, or create a stir.
Humans love stories, and they’ll twist them to create interest, to make the storyteller look good or funny. We tell people things that make us look better (or worse), depending upon the amount of attention the story receives. Stories aren’t about the subject matter. They are about the one telling the story. They say “Look at me.” It’s not the content, but the messenger that becomes the hidden subject.
I wouldn’t believe much of what you hear. I wouldn’t believe much of what you read on MyMorningMotivator either. Most of what you think and say is garbage. Say fewer things today. Think fewer things today. Listen to the birds. Listen to a Beethoven symphony. Listen to the breeze. Watch everything go by. Your life is an experience not a story summarized in the lies of words. Let life “speak” for itself. The narrative is afire with lies. Silence is the fire which makes reality burn truer.
