What is it all telling you?

Isn’t it interesting how we often speak of the body as if it has a mind of its own? You hear phrases like “The body knows,” or “Listen to your body,” or “Your body is telling you something.” We also get visceral directives and gut feelings. All of this is to say that intelligence is everywhere and that the environment is every bit as important as your brain. The mind is communicating with you, but the so-called external world is also communicating with you.

Your body is a kind of intimate habitat. In a way, it’s separate from you, but inextricably the same as you. It’s hard to understand separation. At one level, there is no separation, at another, having a body, a mind, and personality is what allows you to perceive separateness. But that separateness is not real. It’s temporary, and things that are temporary aren’t real.

Since all things are one, why wouldn’t intelligence link them all? Where in the universe is intelligence not found? In the macrocosm, the planets and space act according to physical law. In the microcosm, molecules “know” their own kind. Cells “know” how to repair and replicate. Atoms “know” how to behave. All of these things know their place, how to function, and how to remain distinguishable from other things. Science speaks of the “behavior” of matter, particles, gravity, etc.

How do these things know how to behave? It’s because there is some degree of intelligence in all things, living and non. Even space knows how to behave and function. You show me one place in the universe where intelligence and order cannot be found! Your body is intelligent. Your environment is intelligent. Others are intelligent. It’s all communicating with you. What is it telling you? There is much more to be discerned than just the chattering in the mind.
