Aren’t you curious about yourself? In a manner of speaking, that’s another way of saying, don’t you have faith in yourself? We fear that if we were to be placed in uncharted territory, we’d be unable to survive. But it’s uncharted territory that will draw out new qualities that want to be discovered in you.
Nobody likes to get thrown into the deep end, but that’s exactly what you need, to be in the deep end. Often, it’s the precarious situations that draw out what is hiding behind a comfort zone. It’s in the conditions of being lost that you discover newness. You learn of emerging talents, new proclivities, and surprising adaptability and endurance.
You don’t believe in yourself, that’s why you surround yourself in predictable comfort. That’s why you move towards what’s easy. But in that kind of life, you get stuck with vanilla ice cream forever. It’s novelty, spice, and discovery that makes life dynamic. Don’t you want to extract more flavor from your life? I do. If you really want to see more of who you are, get lost. Put yourself into something vague. Quit your job. Move to a foreign country where you don’t speak the language. Start something you know nothing about. And what you’ll discover is that you didn’t know yourself after all. You’re not rigid, mechanical, or “normal.” You’re rich, dynamic, and have a pioneering spirit. Put it to the test. When you flounder around a bit, then stand upright, you’ll see something new about yourself. You’ll get new ideas and new opportunities. You’ll discover there’s more to you than you think, but you might just need to be lost in order to find those new things that are yearning to be discovered.
