There aren’t any shortcuts to advancement.

Isn’t it something how the mind jumps ahead, first thing in the morning? It’s trying to circumvent danger, and to help you get ahead of potential problems. What’s important to remember is that the part of the brain that’s trying to keep you out of harm’s way is a bit primitive. It’s the lower part which controls flight or fight and is only useful if you’re under attack. In other situations, it can get in the way.

Most of us are not under the threat of physical attack. What the lower part of the brain perceives as a problem, is what the higher part of the brain sees as a project. It just all depends upon what you give in to. Do you cater to the higher order or the lower order? One is unfamiliar and the other is familiar.

There is a clear line between being brave and being foolish; but we don’t always see it as the lower brain tends to be clingy to what is familiar. You’re not going to do something something extraordinary if you cling to what is ordinary and familiar. Leaning into what makes you uncomfortable with discernment, is where real potential exists. You must know the difference between blindly stepping out into oncoming traffic, or blindly stepping out in faith. The higher order learns to face what it doesn’t know. The lower order avoids what it knows. Do you see the difference? The lower brain relies on past experience. The upper brain relies on the imagination, the expansion of knowledge, and the erasure of limit. The upper brain craves novelty, but the lower brain craves comfort. To face the higher order of novelty is to face the void. For what’s new can only come from what’s unknown. If you really want to go beyond, you must travel into the unknown. There are no shortcuts to your extraordinary potential.
