Today, you’re likely to get masked visitors at your door. But it’s not just on Halloween that we wear masks. You’ve got a costume on right now. Think about it – everything in the universe is an expression of itself. There is nothing that the universe is not, not even the space in between objects. However, without our uniqueness, we’d not be able to distinguish. Both the animating force, and the cover which makes things distinguishable, work in tandem to create reality.
Even your personality is a unique expression of the universe. Persona, from the Latin, means mask. The question is, what part is most important, the uniqueness or the sameness? I’d say the answer to that question is both. These polarities depend upon one another to make existence possible.
The way you express yourself and engage with the world is one-of-a-kind. The contents of your story, and the way it has unfolded gives you an unique advantage – a gift of perspective. The content of your creative expression might be similar to what’s already out there, but how you say and express it will be one-of-a-kind. Your life, in the sequence it has unfolded, and with unique personalities who have helped shape it, has given you a view of the world unlike any other. The mask holes that you look through are every bit as unique as that mask that you wear. On many levels we’re ordinary, but you can’t be just that. Get into your role, and use your extraordinary personality and circumstantial perspective. If you think you’re only “ordinary,” you’re missing the extraordinary hiding in the shadows. Yes, your individuality is temporary; but if you use it wisely, you can give the world something it hasn’t seen yet. Your mask may be an illusion, but if you think of it correctly, it’s both a trick and a treat.
