1.) The only way to achieve significance is through hard work, effort, struggle, and sacrifice. 2.) Suffering is beneficial. 3.) You cannot receive something for nothing. 4.) Simple things are worthless. Do you believe these things? There are a couple of wise, sacred passages to consider. In the book of Psalms it says, “Be still and know that I am God.” In the new testament it says, “God is love.” In the Tao Te Ching it says “The Way never acts yet nothing is left undone.”
Let’s consider the main character in the movie, Forrest Gump. He was a simpleton, yet the world opened to him like an avalanche. His life unfolded, and he responded without resistance nor complaint. He didn’t beat down others. He didn’t struggle and fight life, he hadn’t the mental capacity to do that. Yes there were scenes where he put forth energy, but that was to respond to what was given to him. Everything he touched blossomed. Why? He was simple. He was still and never over thought nor obsessed. He was one big bundle of innocent love, and the world showered him with blessing.
You have already gotten something for nothing – a human life. The odds of having life are against you, but that gift was freely bestowed upon you, without your “effort, struggle, sacrifice, or pain.” Your greatest achievements are the ones you enjoy being a part of, and struggle, effort, and sacrifice won’t have anything to do with your success. Suffering is not beneficial – it sucks! Simple things are the wonderment of life, and are in no way “worthless.” Let’s rethink. Be simple, be still, and love more. Then everything will come effortlessly. Relax and allow. The fullness of life is being acutely aware that you have “nothing” to do. It’s all being done! If you want the world to open to you, open your heart, let go of the fight, and enjoy the simplicity of it all.
