It wasn’t before I began to respect my body that I began to care for it. Mind and body cannot be separated, so how you see your body, and conceive of it is the starting place for overall health. How do you see your body? Do you toss it aside, roll your eyes, and think “ew – this old thing?” I think a lot of us don’t think much about the body we occupy, other than it’s flabby, or not worth much. We pay no mind to it, and if we do, it’s negative or neglectful. We mindlessly sit idle, or feed it junk. It’s like owning a 747, putting high fructose corn syrup in the tank, and wondering why it can’t fly across the globe. It’ll never get out of the hangar. A jet engine runs on Jet-A, the highest quality of fuel – clean and efficient. With the proper care it can soar!
If the body is not optimized, how then could you expect to feel good, energetic, and happy? Most people wish they could just take a pill or have an operation, but it’s not that easy. You can’t run on two hours of sleep per night. You can’t run on adrenaline, worry, and junk food. The body is optimized with nutrition, good rest, and exercise. The value in life begins with bodily care – it’s really that simple.
The body is your one and only possession. You’re the indweller who needs a strong, happy “home.” Move, stretch, eat well, and put your body through the paces! You’d be surprised at how your body loves to be pushed in physical intensity. Like a jet engine, your body is meant to fly. It must be fed proper fuel to function at peak levels. Start by respecting your body. Build a good home for yourself. It’s really all you’ve got.
