A wound up person starts with the snooze button, ridden by guilt for “sleeping in,” charged by the obligation to check the phone, and “energized” by all of those important things they have to do today. The energy of being tightly wound, is the same kind of energy you get from sugar. You can get a jolt, but you’ll crash, and the toxic stream of glucose will grind you down. Wound up and ground down – daily life. Very few know the joys of being wound down.
The key to aliveness, to really be turned on, is a counterclockwise idea. If you unwind the key, the coil releases its tension, and you begin to float into the wonderful world of inner gravity. This direction seems counterintuitive and counterproductive. But it’s the secret direction of the extraordinary.
Creative people live off of the grid, deep below the surface. On a mechanical clock, the coil releases as gravity gently pulls on the weights, producing a slow, steady, and reliable undulation. This is literally the key to being creative, productive, and free. As you unwind, you’ll sink into a very large room, in the core of your being. Ahead, you’ll see a tiny pilot light. Step towards that light. For many people, that light is very dull, and they go through life half asleep. But you can let it grow brighter, by floating downward into that chamber of secrets where zest, enthusiasm, aliveness, and joy perpetually reside. Enthusiasm and aliveness, the eternal secrets of that inner chamber, are not the result of wonderful things in your life, but the very cause of them. If you unwind and plunge into your own power source, you’ll find that everything you’ve ever needed or wanted has always been there. No windup needed. It’s only grinding you down. Unwind, and sink gently into your treasures.
