Skill development, getting excellent at something is a byproduct of a natural curiosity that lies within you. If you love expressing yourself in words, then write, speak, or make videos on topics that you’re passionate about. I once heard of a man who wanted to be a famous speaker, and when asked what he wanted to say, he had no idea. If you have nothing to express in words, then don’t try to “become” a speaker.
Trying to become “a somebody” is impossible. If you don’t have an honest love for a craft, then forget it. Great skills are a natural byproduct of the enjoyment of spending time with what you love – expressing yourself. I enjoyed expressing myself by learning to play the piano at a very young age. My young mind was not capable of thinking of “becoming” a professional musician. I didn’t know anything about that. All I knew was that I loved playing the piano, and every free moment I had was devoted to that activity.
A millionaire, a guru, a Wall Street tycoon, an actor, or a business owner – those are fake personas. If you love expressing yourself through movement, then explore dance, rather than thinking of becoming a dancer. If you love to express yourself in cooking, then start a YouTube channel with your culinary creations. If you love to express yourself with fashion, then take a sewing class. Don’t try to go where the money is. Go where your curiosity is. Go where love is. Go where you can be engaged in something that absorbs your attention so much that you lose your separate sense of self. Go where you are lost in the wonder of using your hands, your mind, or your body. Don’t try to pursue becoming anything. Curiosity of what you love leads to learning, doing, creating, and expressing yourself. Go there, and life will take you someplace.
