No matter how much you urge it, life will not speed up. No matter how much you wish to savor it or freeze it, the moment won’t slow down. When you try to push ahead, the only thing that actually speeds up is your racing mind. It’s a bit like those aggressive drivers that speed ahead, cut through traffic, and race towards the red light. It’s clear that the light is red, down the road, but they fight their way ahead of everyone else, simply to have to stop and wait at the the light. Are you racing ahead, only to discover there is nowhere to get to, except another red-light?
The cycling thoughts that raise your pulse, make you sweat, and cause you to race around are not boosting your productivity. They are boosting your levels of stress. Pushing ahead is only mental. On the physical level, time unfolds as it needs to. Things take as much time as they need to, and no urgency on your part is bending the space-time continuum to your selfish needs. There is no need to be frantic, no need to accelerate through your day, no need to jump to the future. When the future arrives, it will feel just like this moment. Remember that this moment was once your future! You simply cannot race ahead of the natural flow of your life. The only place that you are racing to in life, is the cemetery. I realize that’s a sobering thought, but keeping that perspective, helps you match up with the natural flow of your life.
Today, remember that there is no place to go. The earth is round. If you keep going, you’ll end up on the same spot, anyway. The light ahead is red, so no need to hurry up and “get there.” Allow the future to arrive at its own pace. Walk with ease, listen with attentiveness, do everything with a sense of calm alertness. Everything in your life is going to take as long as it needs to. Don’t mess with it. Chances are, if you slow down, go with the flow, and center your energy, most of the lights will turn green just before you arrive at the intersection. Today, allow the green lights to be there just as you “arrive” at each intersection of your day. This natural flow will make you happier, wiser, and able to solve anything that comes your way- one intersection at a time.
