How much of your day is spent on edge, worrying, and being uneasy about the words and the actions of others? Part of that unease is allowing yourself to be offended by what people say, by what they do, or by what they post on social media. But people act according to how they feel. If they are uneasy, foul, or edgy, their words and actions reflect that negativity. Don’t pick up on that garbage. Why not be the example of composure? Or better yet, why not just walk away? The key is to monitor yourself, all day.
Keeping yourself in a comfortable state, keeping your mind from pulling you away into a million different directions, that’s a lot of work. It’s hard to maintain your composure when others misbehave – but your job is to monitor yourself, not to correct others. You don’t have time to concern yourself with the feelings of others. Their feelings are their job, and your feelings are your job. Stick to your assignment – keeping yourself calm, focused, and joyfully present today.
Being offended is a choice. Switch off the news, or put away your social media, if you find yourself becoming uncomfortable, offended, or foul. Keep a constant eye on how you feel. Ask yourself, “Are you comfortable?” If not, get comfortable, and do whatever it takes to remain comfortable, all day today. Allow outcomes to take care of themselves, and you take care of yourself. You have enough work to do today, mainly maintaining your composure. You’ll be busy, so there is no need (nor time) to meddle in the inner affairs and actions of others – that’s their work and their responsibility. Carefully mind your own, inner business, and you’ll be a more joyful example for others to follow.
