To some extent there is a teacher within each of us. Teaching yourself requires an active mindset, one that is curious about how to change a behavior, about how to sustain better emotions, or about how to create a desired circumstance. The world is full of people who have made terrible mistakes, and who have lived to tell their story. Information is too accessible to remain ignorant of what life wants us to know. But becoming your own teacher requires something most people never think about. It requires a desire to stop being ignorant about yourself.
Most people chastise themselves. They’d much rather give themselves detention than an encouraging progress report. But a good teacher is hungry for new methods, innovative techniques, and ways of making educating enjoyable. A good teacher loves to watch their students learn, and you can love to watch yourself learn, even in difficult situations. A good teacher pays attention and knows what to look for to help the learner understand. You can do this for yourself.
With information so readily available in this world, throwing your hands up in the air and saying, “I just don’t know what to do” is a matter of choice. It’s the educator in you that will seek out the information that it needs, and it will show you the way through the difficult times. The educator in you knows your potential, and it knows that you are very capable. But the learner in you will be stubborn, and will likely resit having to “study,” but don’t give up on your inner learner. It will eventually figure out that it cannot remain the same (uneducated) forever. You cannot expect new results in your life if your inner learner is not receptive to what that means. The lessons are tough, but your inner teacher is always there to help guide you, if you can be open and receptive to what you need to learn about your life and yourself.
