The difficulty of juggling a million stories at once.

Be careful with what you consider to be difficult. If getting out of bed is a struggle, take a look behind the scenes. Is is really? What does getting out of bed entail? You have to sit up and to put your feet on the floor, then stand. That’s it, unless you’re physically disabled. The so-called difficulty is wresting with your inner story. If going to the gym is difficult, look again. It’s just putting on your gym clothes, driving there, and doing each activity as it comes. That’s cake. The real struggle is fighting with the narrative of how “hard” everything is. For some people with physical limitations, thing are hard. For most of us, not so fast.

The present moment only requires one thing at time, and that’s pretty easy. Juggling is hard. And what you’re juggling are a million stories at once. Stop juggling. It’s just traffic. It’s just a meeting. It’s just people being people. It’s just getting out of bed. It’s just doing your thing. Yep, there’s a lot going on, but not in the present moment. If you have to confront a “difficult” person, do it with ease. It’s how you diffuse the garbage that might be in another person’s head. Do your thing, but do each thing deliberately and with a clear, easy demeanor. That’s so much more manageable than juggling stories.

Amplify the mental drama, juggle the entire day in a single thought, and you’ll tense up. Look at the truth. Your story adds to your tension. Your calm, focused, and submissive demeanor adds to your sustainable peace. Once you throw out the story, you don’t have any obstacles to traverse. It’s smooth sailing! It’s cake to do with devoted attention to only one thing. It’s difficult to juggle millions of thoughts. Enjoy the smaller fragments of doing. Enjoy the clear head in focusing on one thing. Be at ease with the simplicity of one thing at one time, and your life will stop being so “difficult.”
