To be the object of someone else’s love is perhaps the greatest treasure in life. To have someone deeply care about you is a valuable commodity. Affection is priceless. But what about compatibility? Finding long-term compatibility with another human seems like one-in-a-million. It seems like compatibility is the priceless unicorn for which all humans seek! When finding just the “right” partner supersedes the goal of being loved, and to love, things get muddled. But are we searching for love, or are we searching for a compatible mate? The argument would logically be that we are searching for both, but in all likelihood, we are indeed searching for what cannot be found. We are searching for the elements of compatibility, the qualities and expectations that another person can never live up to.
When compatibility becomes the focus, love gets lost. Yes, we need to be able to relate to one another, but we also must be able to sense when love is there because love is blind, actually. The object of your love is not in physical form, anyway. It’s in spiritual form. It knows no age difference; it knows no culture difference; and it knows no barriers of so-called compatibility. Love only knows itself. Love is love, and compatibility is compatibility. But when love recognizes itself, in another, you are compatible! The concept of compatibility never creates love. The concept of compatibility is a moving target in your mind. Love is a bond, deep and penetrative.
If someone loves you, and you know it’s genuine, strong and real – consider yourself 100% compatible. Love has seen through you and your mate’s so-called differences, and that means that you can too. Don’t get caught up in finding the “perfect mate,” the one who lines up, precisely with what you imagine makes them “compatible.” Get caught up in how much they actually love you, and how much they care about you. The love you have, if you’re lucky enough to have it, is far more valuable than what you might think makes you and your partner compatible!
