If this were your last day, would you spend time doing what you are about to do? I heard that Steve Jobs asked himself this question, daily. If you say “no” too many days, it’s time to reconsider what you’re doing.

Today often feels like slugging it. Don’t just bang it out, as my weight trainer says. Banging it out means producing something hurriedly or in great quantities. Weightlifting is to get to the prized body, or so we think. But it’s never quite right. Time to resort to the big weapons – steroids, formulas, pills, and substances.

Now you’ve got low testosterone. Back acne. Shriveled testicles. Oily skin. Weight gain. Indigestion. Problems sleeping. You name it. Your health is wrecked for the prized body. Spend a lifetime building a body (or a career) by banging it out and watch your joints deteriorate, your blood pressure rise, and your body give out. Bang it out and kill it.

That’s the formula of success in modern life. Let your health go to shit – it’s all for a good cause – winning and succeeding! The winning formula today is – once your health has deteriorated to the point of no return, spend your “heard-earned” fortune in your old age desperate to recover what’s lost for good.

With your competition winnings, buy yourself a wheelchair or a motorized scooter. Hire a nurse to help you to the toilet and in and out of the tub. You deserve it: to be pampered – literally diapered – incontinent because you put your health on hold to bang out your work goals.

When is success enjoyed? When is a dollar enjoyed? When is a job enjoyed? When is a home enjoyed? When is today enjoyed? When is health enjoyed? When is life enjoyed? After you’ve destroyed everything, “banging it out?” What good will your ruins be?

It’s hard to recover what’s been wasted “banging it out and killing it.”
