The Nativity Scene needs to be seen. Our youth is in the crib. Our animalistic nature is represented in the onlooking animals. Our ever-growing wisdom is represented in the sages overlooking the entire scene, while our parental nature, mother and father, dote and coo as protector and provider. There is also the night sky, the invisible angels, and the stable itself. You are all of these – a complete picture of truth seen in a scene.
You were once the baby, innocent and free, but you are still fundamentally that. At times, you lost your cool and became an animal, charging like a raging bull, attacking and blaming. You were once the stable, housing another and supporting those in need. You were once the guiding star, mentoring those who asked for direction. Within yourself is mother and father. You are receptive (female) and you are giver (male).
Perhaps you are now a wise person, a sage who has come to adore not only the child, but the entire scene of life. You’ve reflected on your life. Life in its fullness is represented in the Nativity. Baby and all – she has the complete picture, and so do you.
It all works together – every last bit of this image is you and me. You’ll journey through the scene and go back and forth, playing different roles. You’ll giggle like a baby, and when you get old, you might poop your diapers again! But you’ll always be everything – stable, star, sage, parent, and youth. You’ll always have what you need. That’s because you are a complete picture, and the entire image is you, whole and wholesome. All that you need, all that you’ll ever be, and all that you once were. That’s the Nativity Seen, seen for what it is, your entire life in an instant. What merriment!
