The fullness of today: Your agenda isn’t that dire.

Tuesday, November 2, 2021

If you find yourself “having” a bad day, it might be because you haven’t brought goodness into it. You’re too busy with everything you have to do, and there’s no room for anything worthwhile or what you want to do. You’ve scheduled everything but goodness. Today doesn’t exists just so you can get everything done. Today exists for you to bring something worthy into existence, something good, something positive. Your personal agenda may be full, but is what you’re doing today bringing fullness into your life? Today is the second day of the month, but it might be the last day on your life’s calendar. Can’t we find a way to prioritize making today good?

Don’t fill your agenda with only menial stuff. Life isn’t a checklist like that. Put something on each day’s agenda that reminds you of your responsibility to bring goodness into the world. After you sleep for 7 hours, there’s only about 17 hours of conscious time in each day. Surely not all of it is filled with so much stuff that there’s no more energy, time, nor space for something good, worthy, and meaningful.

Even if you take 5 minutes to do something good for yourself or for others, it can make a difference in whether you’ve had a good day or whether you have a bad day. There is always a moment, some space to extend goodness into your waking hours, but you have to remember to make it happen, intentionally. Bring the goodness of life to your agenda, no matter how small the space or the gesture. Take a look at your personal calendar, it might be too full with things that ultimately won’t matter, anyway. If today marks your last day on earth, fill it with goodness before you get too busy getting everything else done.
